Lists are how you look at what's in your space. Each one is a question that answers itself — "what needs buying?", "what's going off this week?" — or a list you fill in by hand. The ones you use most go in the menu.
The ones you start with
- Shopping
- Everything that needs buying, grouped by the room it lives in so the kitchen things sit together. In the menu.
- Eat soon
- Everything going off in the next week, soonest first, plus anything you've opened. In the menu. See Dates and minimums.
- Wishlist
- Everything marked wanted.
All three are ordinary lists: change them, take them out of the menu, or delete them. If you delete one and want it back, the Lists page puts it back.
Making your own
On Lists, under Make a list, give it a name and choose what it shows. Everything you choose must be true for a thing to appear:
- What
- Needs buying — anything out, running low, or below the minimum you set. Wanted — the wishlist. Got it — things you have. Anything — no condition.
- In
- A place, including everything inside it. Something that's run out completely still counts as being where it lives, so the paprika stays on the kitchen list after the last of it has gone.
- Tagged
- A tag, including the tags beneath it.
- Dates
- Going off within a few days, a week, two weeks or a month.
- Group by room
- Headings for each room, from where things live.
- Show it in the menu
- Puts the list in the menu bar.
Examples
- Sainsbury's: needs buying, in Kitchen. The paint in the garage stays off it.
- Hardware shop: needs buying, in Garage.
- Market: needs buying, tagged
veg. - Freezer, use it up: in Freezer, going off within a month.
Places usually do the job without any setting up, because things are where they live. Tags are for finer splits, but you have to remember to tag things.
You can also ask the Rummager: "make me a list of what's low in the kitchen".
Using a list
- Got it
- On anything that needs buying or is wanted. Marks it as got and puts it back where it lives: the amount you were short of, if it has a minimum, otherwise "some". A bar appears with Undo in case you tapped the wrong one.
- Opened today, Gone
- On anything going off. See Dates and minimums.
- Change
- Edits the name and conditions.
- Add to menu / In the menu
- Puts the list in the menu, or takes it out.
Lists you fill by hand
Choose I'll add things by hand when making it: books to read, presents, things lent out. Each entry can say who recommended it. Only things already in the space can go on — stash it first, even with no stock.
