Home is one box: type to search, or type a sentence to tell the Rummager something. Beneath it is what wants your attention.
Searching
It searches as you type, through every thing's name and notes.
What it understands
- Names, and half-names. "passp" finds "Passports", and so does "pasports". Typos are fine.
- Meaning. "something to fix a puncture" can find a bike repair kit with neither word in its name. Results found this way are marked by meaning — a hint that the match is about what it's for, not what it's called.
It searches things, not places. "Box 3" won't list what's in box 3 — open the box on Locations instead, or scan its label if it has one. To see everything with a tag, click the tag on Tags.
A name you remember beats a description: if you type something close to a real name, that thing comes first, ahead of anything merely similar.
Something you stashed a moment ago can be found by name straight away. Finding it by meaning can take a minute longer while the server works out what it is.
The three orders
- Best match
- The default — closest first.
- A–Z
- For when everything matches about equally and you just want to find the row.
- By place
- Grouped under where things are. Something kept in two places appears under both. Things with no place recorded come last.
Telling the Rummager
Type a sentence — "the tent is in the loft", "where are the spare keys?" — and a button appears beneath the box: Tell the Rummager for something you're saying, Ask the Rummager for a question. Press it and the Rummager takes it from there. It's only offered when the server has the assistant switched on. See Ask the Rummager.
Before you type
The cards are your pinned lists — Shopping and Eat soon to start with — each with how many things are on it and the first few names. If anything is waiting in the Inbox, that's at the top. Everything lists every thing in the space.
Nothing found?
Home offers to add it, with the name filled in. To ask a question that needs thinking about rather than searching ("what's in the loft that I could sell?"), try Ask the Rummager.
