Ask the Rummager

Tell it what went where, or ask it to find something.

Ask is a conversation with the Rummager, the built-in assistant. Tell it what happened, or ask it something, in plain words:

  • "the tent is in the loft"
  • "where are the spare keys?"
  • "we're out of paprika"
  • "move everything in the blue crate to the loft"
  • "what could I use to fix a puncture?"

What it can and can't do

It can do exactly what the buttons can — search, stash, move, change a state, put things on lists — and nothing else. It can only see the space you're in. It can't see photos; those go through the Inbox instead.

If a place is ambiguous — two boxes called "Box 3" — it asks rather than guessing. That's deliberate: a wrong guess puts something in the wrong loft, and you'd never know.

Undo

After it changes anything, a bar says what changed — "2 things added, 1 moved" — with an Undo button. The same changes appear in Activity, marked as the assistant's, and can be undone from there later.

"The assistant is off"

The assistant needs an AI provider, which the server's operator sets up. If it isn't, everything it does can still be done by hand — or from Claude Code over MCP (see Tokens, MCP and shortcuts). The operator can also switch it off for a particular space.

The spending line

Each question costs the server a little. There is a monthly allowance per person, and the line under the box shows how much of it is used. Using Rummager from your own Claude over MCP doesn't count, because that's paid for by your own Claude, not this server.

What you type is sent to the AI provider. See What leaves this server.
