Everything (under Manage, or the card on Home) lists every thing in the space. A thing is what something is; where it is and how many are its stock.
The list
All, Got and Wanted narrow it by state. For what needs buying, use the Shopping list in the menu — it can be split by shop and has a Got it button.
Adding something
Add, in the menu, is one form:
- What is it?
- The name. The only thing you have to fill in.
- Where is it?
- Type it the way you'd say it: "garage > rack > box 3", or "box 3 in the garage". Anything that doesn't exist yet is made. As you type, it shows the chain — existing places in grey, new ones highlighted — and offers places you already have, so you don't end up with "Garage" and "garage". Tap one to use it. This becomes where the thing lives.
- How many
- A number and an optional unit. Left empty with a place given, it's one.
- Tags
- Separated by commas. Tags you already have are offered as you type; a name nobody has used before becomes a new tag, marked new so you can see it coming.
- More
- Notes, the state (got it, running low, run out, want it), best-before and use-by dates, and a minimum to keep. Something marked run out or want it gets a home but no stock — it's not here yet, but its home is what puts it on the right shopping list.
Stash and add another keeps the place and tags and clears the name, for unpacking a box one thing at a time. Everything one press makes — the thing, a new shelf, new tags — is one change, so one undo in Activity takes it all back.
Quicker ways in: Scan for anything with a barcode, Ask for a sentence, and Capture for later.
A thing's own page
- State buttons
- have, low, out, want, gone. Press one to change it. See what they mean.
- Suggest tags
- Asks the AI which of your existing tags apply. It never invents a tag and never adds one without you pressing it. Only there when the server has the AI switched on.
- Always keep at least
- A minimum. Below it, the thing goes on the shopping list by itself. See minimums.
- Usually lives in
- Its home: where it goes back to. Set automatically the first time you put it somewhere, and kept after it runs out — which is how the paprika stays on the kitchen's shopping list once the last of it has gone. Taking something elsewhere for a while doesn't change it. If it has really moved house, Edit it and type the new place, the same way as when stashing. A tag's default home fills in for a thing that has none.
- Edit
- The same form: name, where it lives, tags (type to add, delete to remove), notes and state. New places and tags are made as you type them.
- Where it is
- Its stock: one line per place. Each line can be moved, removed, or given dates (best before, use by, opened) for the Eat soon list. See Dates and minimums. Add stock adds another line.
- What's known
- Attributes — flash size, ISBN, author, whatever matters. If its tags have an attribute template, the usual fields are offered to fill in.
- Badges at the top
- A label code if it has a QR label, and any barcodes it was scanned with.
Deleting
Deleting a thing takes its stock and attributes with it. Activity can undo it. To record that you've used something up but might buy it again, mark it out instead.
